A Little of This, A Little of That

This is the first time I've endorsed a book on my blog but I feel this one is worthwhile. It may be obvious to you, but in case it isn't, the author is Dr. David Jeremiah. I decided to read this book after reading several positive reviews on it. I got it from the public library. (I must interject here, that I love finding what I expect to be a good, Christian book, and calling the public library to see if they have it. If they say they don't, I ask them to get it for me. That's what I did in this case. While they didn't have it in my local library, it was available in the greater Grand Rapids area, so they got it on an inter-library loan.)

The book was so encouraging, especially in light of the current political situation in which we find ourselves since January. It answered questions about things I'd long been thinking, but no one I asked seemed to be able to answer. It also opened up vistas I'd never before viewed. I will be purposefully vague, so as not to ruin the impact of the book. Suffice it to say that I expected I might hear the trumpet sound, and that I might begin winging my way upward before I finished reading the book! Even so, come Lord Jesus!

Yesterday I was given a new assignment at work. It is one that is going to challenge and stretch me, so please pray for me. I laughingly said today that if I ever finish all the projects assigned to me there, I'll be much older when it happens. I guess that gives me job security in an otherwise unstable time.

Speaking of unstable times, I'm sure that no matter where you live, you're experiencing the impact of the recession. However, I doubt it is felt anywhere more acutely than in Michigan, home of the American auto industry. Our list of unemployed church members is growing. The news last night is that GM will lay off all workers for nine weeks this summer. If it were only GM, that would be one thing. But when you consider how many other factories in our area manufacture parts for the auto industry, you recognize the impact this will have on Michigan in general. The housing market is already so glutted it is virtually impossible to sell a house now without throwing in cars, home theater systems, etc., in order to get rid of the house. I need to get out of my house, but would have to give it away in order to get rid of it, and I can't afford to do that of course.

With all the doom and gloom we are currently hearing, we are thanking the Lord for what is happening at Bibles International. We have nine Scripture portions on the cusp of publication. One is at the printer as I write this. The dedication and distribution of these Scriptures will bring new life to some who've never before heard the message of salvation by grace through faith. Pray for those even now who are poised to receive these Scriptures within the next 18 months. Pray that the Holy Spirit will begin breaking up the soil of their hearts, in preparation for the seed that will be planted.
