Our Host and Hostess outside Eckerman, Michigan

During my first year in Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) I was mentored at the big Baptist Hospital in Ferkessedougou. Two of my mentors were Dr. Dwight and Barb Slater. (Barb was an RN.) Not only did they mentor me during that time, but they were our host and hostess during my mini vacation in the Upper Peninsula. (I went up to the UP with another missionary nurse/mentor, Robin Hampton.) Without the help of these three missionaries, and others like them, I would not have known how to open and run a dispensary in the southwestern part of that country. So, I'm very grateful for these people who cared enough to help me.

I'd not seen the Slaters for about 25 years, so it was good to visit with them.

It looks like they live in a pretty place. Nice time of year for a little vacation!
