Henry Osborn now with the Lord

Translator meets the AuthorOsborn_alone
Early this morning, May 13, 2011, the Lord took Dr. Henry Osborn to be with Him. Dr. Osborn played a pivotal role in Bibles International’s early days; in fact, he worked as a translation consultant for Baptist Mid-Missions even before BMM launched the ministry of Bibles International in 1981. Dr. Osborn was born on June 4, 1924, just one week after the founder of Baptist Mid-Missions, Dr. William Haas, went to glory. Although no one could have predicted it then, Dr. Osborn would carry on the same type of ministry Dr. Haas had initiated.

Before his retirement, Dr. Osborn had worked with translators from  78 different language groups, helping them translate the Word of God into their vernacular languages. Undoubtedly there are many he has already met in heaven that are there, in part, as the result of reading about Christ’s work on the cross on their behalf in a Bible or New Testament Dr. Osborn helped to translate.

Dr. Osborn’s beloved wife, Anne, preceded him to heaven on June 20, 2006. He is survived by four children, Stephen, Grace, David, and Elizabeth, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation is tentatively scheduled for Friday, May 20 at Pederson Funeral Home in Rockford, Michigan. A memorial service will follow at Northland Baptist Church in Grand Rapids on Saturday. We at Bibles International count ourselves blessed to have had such a remarkable servant of God among us

Thank you, Elaine, for putting this together. Dr. Osborn will be greatly missed and long remembered, but we rejoice with him.

Dr. Osborn was one of my 2 favorite professors at GRBC. He was truly a model and mentor for missions. We need to pray to the Lord to raise up more men and women like him.
